The past millennium saw a miniscule group of organisations, individuals have elitist access to some of the marvels that technology, and medicine could bring. The next 10 years will see a levelling out. The twenty after, will see us more as equals in terms of access to advances in health and technology.
In 1984, a word processing system with 512K of RAM cost around $17,000.oo. Today for less than $5,000.oo, or in real terms, around 10% of the word processor original cost, you can buy a 1,000MHZ PC with 256MB of RAM. At least a 500-fold increase and with more functionality! It therefore does not seem to be an unreasonable thought that the following predictions from some of the world's futurists would be realised.
Around……..
2005 - retinal implants linked to external video cameras.
2010 - expert systems will surpass human learning and logic abilities.
2015 - machine use of human-like creativity.
2020 - ubiquitous embedded intelligence.
We want to bring more information about the future, in particular health and the way we will learn. In this month's special feature, we take a snapshot view of what we might expect. It makes for compelling reading, at least the editor and team found it so.
For students, we have commenced with the first in a series of Board of Studies subjects that will provide a centralised point for a wealth of material pertaining to each subject/curricula. Bookmark this as your school assignment or project first reference point.
Enjoy, and feel free to email us at community@we-r1.org to identify your specific interests. Time and opportunities permitting, our outstanding and gifted team will respond as your community resource.
